FUTURE-STEM-HUB

The Project

Overview

STEM skills are crucial for Europe's competitiveness, innovation potential, and ability to tackle societal issues. Yet, AI is not integrated into secondary school STEM training, and many students perceive it as complex and inaccessible. This perception often persists after graduation, dissuading students from pursuing further studies or careers in these fields. However, given the rapid integration of AI into various industries, acquiring knowledge and skills in these areas will soon become crucial for graduates' employability.

Thus, STEM education at school level must adapt to the evolving technological landscape and introduce students to the fundamental concepts and ethical considerations of AI. Many students, particularly those with aptitude in Mathematics, are capable of engaging with AI concepts, especially considering that basic Computer Science and Programming are already part of high school curricula. Moreover, integrating AI education into the classroom can enhance inclusivity and engagement in STEM learning, particularly for students with non-science backgrounds. AI offers an excellent opportunity for this adaptation, as it spans various industries where non-STEM graduates will work. While the technical aspects of AI are STEM-intensive, future employees across different fields need to grasp the logic, concepts, and ethical considerations of AI applications they'll encounter.

The FUTURE-STEM-HUB project addresses these challenges by providing students with specialized AI skills and practical experiences tailored to secondary education. The project bridges the gap between education and industry needs. This approach will not only help secure a skilled workforce for STEM-related industries but also inspire students to pursue careers in emerging technological fields rather than opting for alternative sectors. By introducing AI education early, we are preparing Europe's next generation to become active participants and innovators in an AI-driven future.
